Grand opening of new viewpoint

The first bow section in Maassluis was inaugurated by alderman Sjoerd Kuiper. The bow offers a wonderful view over the river Het Scheur and serves as a meeting place for the inhabitants of Maassluis. The grand opening was attended by many local residents. As tradition dictates, a bottle of champagne was smashed against the bow by one of the residents to mark the ‘launch’.

Maritime history

The bow symbolises Maassluis’s rich maritime history. Many references to that past can be found in the ‘Het Balkon’ district where the viewpoint is located. The bow, a work of art designed by artist Henriëtte Faas and designer Christian Messing, offers a stunning view of the waterway. It is a metaphor for ‘breaching the bank’.

Second bow section.

The bow is one of two viewing platforms. The second bow section will be built after completion of the residential development ‘Het Balkon’.

For this project, Waco created the double-curved concrete elements forming the bow. Click here to read more about the project.
